Hope
everyone had a great weekend.
Well, the weather for the June "dusk
patrol" was just great. Several of us showed up with
planes, and we had a chance to talk to a newbie who has a
Dynaflite kit ready to be built. (Made a "convert" out of
him when he saw Terry's SE5a fly. *grin*)
There were 3 Dynaflite SE5s, two Camels,
and a Fokker Triplane, plus Larry Puls' little foam SE5a.
Roger Vaad didn't bring his electric-conversion H9 Camel
this month, but it will be there next month.
Both Camels and two of the SE5s flew. Terry
Lamm's Fokker Triplane had some trouble at takeoff, but his
Sopwith and SE5 flew wonderfully.
I flew my H9 Sopwith Camel again. Still
trying to get the hang of landings. I can set it down
gently enough, and everything will be looking great, then
"Foomp!", over on its' nose it goes. Guess I'll have to
remember to use high rates on the elevator when landing. I
think I'm just running out of elevator throw.
Larry Puls talked me into flying his
Dynaflite SE5a for him. My flight was "eventful", as it not
only proved to be very tail-heavy,
but needs adjustment on the aileron linkages. Very hairy,
especially when it dead-sticked on landing. I was happy to
get it
down in one piece, but actually managed a passable landing.
I'm sure some nose weight and other tweaking will set things
right.
There was food provided by Mike and Tracy,
who I can't thank enough. We are still trying to get Mike to
give WW1 stuff a try.
There's always room for more "early birds"
at the dusk patrol, so if you're anywhere near Cobras
Field - bring 'em out!
"Contact!"
